OAKLAND, Calif. With Ontario lowering the age threshold for publicly funded breast cancer screenings for people with average risk by an entire decade, thousands more will be eligible for their first mammogram come fall, 2024.Starting at age 40, people will be able to self refer for the screening every two years, which means an additional 130,000 mammograms will be completed in the province annually.What is a mammogram and how is it conducted?A screening mammogram is a test conducted usually on asymptomatic people to check for breast cancer and ideally detect it early if present.“It’s a test that uses an X-ray beam to take a picture of a compressed breast,” explains Dr. Supriya Kulkarni, breast radiologist at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. One person has been rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a shooting in North York.Toronto police were called to the Grandravine Drive and Jane Street area just before 9 p.m. on Monday for reports of multiple shots fired.Officers located one victim with serious injuries.Suspects are outstanding and are urging members of the public to avoid the area in the meantime. CHICAGO — Authorities responded after reports of shots fired on Northwestern's Chicago campus on Monday evening. In a message shared on Northwestern University's website at 9:07 p.m., the university confirmed that Chicago and Northwestern police were responding to reports of shots fired outside of Wieboldt Hall near East Chicago Avenue and North Lake Shore Drive in Streeterville.In an update shared at 9:32 p.m., the university provided an "all clear" and confirmed that the campus has been secured. SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) -- One person was shot and an alleged suspect was in custody after a SWAT situation in San Marcos on Monday, according to the San Marcos Police Department.Around 4:30 p.m., SMPD said it received a call about someone who was shot. That person drove to a nearby hospital and was expected to survive.The suspect was previously barricaded in an apartment at a complex on El Rio Street, according to police. Brian Maclin was scheduled for a bench trial Monday when he suddenly offered a blind plea to a judge and received probation for crimes FOX 2 first told you about in 2022.The case is documented on police body camera footage from an Aug. 31, 2022, raid that exposed dogs stacked in cages.
